SOMERVILLE, NJ – Somerset County Clerk Steve Peter is inviting voters who wish to apply for a mail-in ballot for the June 8 2021 primary to come into his office without requiring an appointment, though COVID protocols will remain in order. This is the first service open to the general public at the County Administration Building without a prior appointment since it closed in March 2020.

“We’re returning to holding primarily in-person elections, but understand that with COVID still impacting so many people a significant number of voters may prefer to vote by mail again this year,” said Clerk Peter. “Opening our office to the voting public without appointments but following COVID protocols is a way to make participating in the June primary easier while protecting the health of the voters and our staff.”

Voters wishing to obtain their ballot from the Clerk’s Office should present at the front entrance to the Somerset County Administration Building at 20 Grove Street, Somerville, NJ. Sheriff’s officers will take their temperature, and then direct them to the Clerk’s office to apply for their ballot. If the voter wishes, they will be directed to a desk socially distanced from staff to complete their ballot which can then be handed in to the Board of Elections, placed in the ballot drop box at the front entrance, or mailed through the United States Postal Service.

Voters who prefer to have their ballot mailed to them can obtain an application at the front desk or download one at http://www.co.somerset.nj.us/vbm and submit it before Tuesday, June 1.

In person mail-in ballot applications can be requested from the Clerk’s office until Monday, June 7 at 3 p.m. If a voter wishes to vote but misses the deadline they can vote in person at their district polling place. A list of polling places is available online at https://bit.ly/3wpRLkw.
