SOMERVILLE, NJ – The Somerset County Department of Health (SCDoH) opened a new pop-up drive-through COVID-19 vaccination clinic this week at the Rutgers Plaza shopping center in Franklin Township. The clinic was made possible by an additional allocation of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) one-dose vaccine to the county, enabling 200 new appointments per day the site is open. The existing Raritan Valley Community College drive-through clinic will also administer J&J vaccine from this allotment and continue to provide both first and second Moderna doses as it has since January.

“The good news is that the New Jersey Department of Health provided us with an additional allocation of vaccine this week, and we are ready and able to get it quickly into the arms of Somerset County residents with this pop-up clinic in Franklin,” said Somerset County Commissioner Director Shanel Robinson. “The better news is Somerset County can handle even more than our current allocation of both Moderna and J&J, and we are ready to scale up to meet any allocation the state provides us in the future.”

As with the Raritan Valley Community College COVID vaccination clinic, the Rutgers Plaza clinic’s appointments will be scheduled through the state appointment system at http://www.covidvaccine.nj.gov/. Registering with this site does not create an appointment, but only registers you to be notified of when you are eligible to make a Covid-19 vaccination appointment. Once you qualify for vaccination, you will receive a second email from the state with a link to schedule an appointment at one of the sites on the list, including RVCC and Rutgers Plaza.

Residents who schedule an appointment at the Rutgers Plaza clinic should arrive within a 15-minute window of their appointment to ensure the safety of staff, clinic clients, and the public. If a resident arrives too early, they will be asked to come back to ensure safe traffic flow on Easton Avenue, JFK Boulevard, and in the parking lot where the clinic is being held.
