Somerset County Office on Aging Offering Free Farmers Market Vouchers Worth $30 to Eligible Residents

 

SOMERVILLE – Eligible Somerset County residents can receive free farmers’ market vouchers worth $30 to purchase fresh vegetables, fruit, and herbs grown at local farms. Vouchers are available at the Office on Aging and Disability Services, located in Somerville, from July 5 to Sept. 30, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Vouchers are valid until Nov. 30.

Farm Stands Participating in 2022

Ripple Hill Farms, Basking Ridge; Bernardsville Farmers Market, Bernardsville; Hillsborough Farm County Market, Hillsborough; Axcel Farm, Hillsborough; Duke Farm to Table Market, Hillsborough; Norz-Hill Farm & Market, Hillsborough; Montgomery Farmers Market, Montgomery; John H. Drake Farm, Skillman and Watchung Farmers Market, Watchung.

 

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, individuals must be 60 years of age and above, reside in Somerset County and meet the following income guidelines:

  • An individual’s income cannot exceed $25,142
  • A married couple’s income cannot exceed $33,874

Application and Registration Process

This year individuals will not have to provide proof of income. Eligible applicants will be required to:

  • Sign and date a Self-Declaration of Income Form stating that they meet the required income guidelines
  • Fill out a registration form to receive the vouchers
  • Applicants MUST show proof of age and residency with a driver’s license or other documentation

 

Make an Appointment to Apply and Pick Up Vouchers

To make an appointment and to apply, call Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services between, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at (toll-free) 1-888-747-1122 or 908-704-6346.

Residents can pick up vouchers at the following location:

  • Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services

27 Warren Street, Somerville, NJ 08876

  • There will not be curbside assistance this year
  • Parking is available in the visitor lot to the right of the Somerset County Human Services Building

 

Proxy System

If eligible participants are unable to pick up their vouchers at the Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services, they can send a representative (proxy). A proxy can only represent a maximum of three seniors.

The proxy must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 16 years of age or older
  • Provide a proxy statement or letter that is signed and dated by the eligible senior stating the proxy is authorized to pick up the vouchers
  • Provide identification

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

The Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services receives vouchers through the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). The SFMNP is a program designed to provide low-income seniors with access to locally grown fruits, vegetables, honey and herbs; increase the domestic consumption of agricultural commodities through farmers’ markets, roadside stands, and community-supported agricultural programs; and aid in the development of local agriculture.
