Somerset County to Hold September 11 Ceremony on Saturday

SOMERVILLE – The Somerset County Board of County Commissioners will hold a ceremony at 8:46 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. The public is welcome to attend in person or watch the livestream on Somerset County’s Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/somersetcountynj).

The ceremony will be held on the steps of the Somerset County Historic Courthouse, followed by the annual wreath presentation at the county’s Memorial Clock Tower, located at the corner of Main and Bridge streets.

“Twenty years ago, our nation was rocked by the terror attacks on New York City, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania,” said Commissioner Director Shanel Y. Robinson. “We came together as a country that terrible day, and it is vital that we commemorate that spirit of community on this 20th anniversary as we recover from the historic flooding caused by Hurricane Ida.”

Flags at county facilities will be flown at half-staff in accordance with the congressional mandate passed in December 2001.
