Somerset County to Hold September 11 Ceremony

SOMERVILLE – The Somerset County Board of County Commissioners will hold an in-person ceremony starting at 8:46 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

The ceremony will be held on the steps of the Somerset County Historic Courthouse, followed by the annual wreath presentation at the county’s Memorial Clock Tower, located at the corner of Main and Bridge streets. The Commissioners will read the names of the 39 residents lost in the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

“Twenty-one years ago, our nation was rocked by terror attacks in New York City, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania. We gather each year to celebrate and honor those we lost, their families and the many heroes who responded on that day,” said Commissioner Director Shanel Y. Robinson. “We also remember the ways people came together to help and support each other in the days and weeks that followed. We can recapture that feeling of unity by continuing to perform small acts of kindness for others.”

Flags at county facilities will be flown at half-staff in accordance with the congressional mandate passed in December 2001.
