Somerset County Youth Council to Host ‘Safe Night’ on Aug. 14

This Year’s Theme Is ‘Summerfest: Mind, Body and Fun’

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – This year, the theme for Safe Night is “Summerfest: Mind, Body and Fun.” This annual event is an ideal summer festival for teens. Hosted by the Somerset County Youth Council, Safe Night will be occurring on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., at the Ted Blum 4-H Center located at 510 Milltown Road, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Preregistration is required. The deadline to register is Aug. 4.

“This will be a great night out for kids,” said Somerset County Commissioner Paul Drake. “Last year it was canceled because of the pandemic, but this year the event will be held in-person, allowing teens to experience a bit of normalcy while having fun and enjoying healthy activities.”

Teens can participate in fun activities such as yoga; mandala coloring, a form of art therapy that relieves stress; Zumba, an aerobic exercise that uses Latin dance moves; and games such as Jeopardy and Minute to Win it.

Free pizza and light refreshments will be available. Admission is $2. The event is open to teens in grades seven to 12, and only 100 participants will be allowed to attend. Masks are required. Attendees must pre-register. To register online, visit To print out a registration form, go to:

The Somerset County Youth Council was established to help youth develop their leadership skills and to give them a forum where their ideas and concerns can be expressed and conveyed to the Board of County Commissioners. Youth Council Members are actively solicited from Somerset County middle schools and high schools (public and private). Members of the Youth Council develop ideas for activities and programs that are coordinated and implemented by the students to promote youth leadership.
